Privacy and cookies

rupor. is a debate platform. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how long we keep it. Updated 26 October 2026.

Cookies. We use only essential cookies. sid keeps you signed in (180 days, set only when you log in). gid is an anonymous guest key: it lets you vote and comment without an account, protects forms from forgery and stops vote stuffing (1 year). ck remembers that you closed the cookie notice (1 year). We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and there are no third-party trackers on the site.

Your browser. Your light or dark theme choice is stored in your browser (localStorage) and is never sent to us.

Account. If you sign up, we store your handle, a hash of your password (never the password itself), your email if you give one (only for password recovery), and your profile picture and bio if you add them.

What you publish. Posts, comments and images you upload are public. Votes are shown only as totals; who voted for what is not shown to anyone.

Servers and network. To deliver the site and protect it from abuse, our server and our network provider Cloudflare process your IP address and basic browser details. Cloudflare may set its own security cookie (__cf_bm) to filter out bots. We count page views per page on our own server, without cookies and without identifying you.

Videos. Videos from YouTube and other sites load only after you press play. From that moment the video site may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.

We do not sell your data and do not share it for advertising. There are no ads on the site.

Your rights. Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask for a copy of your data, its correction or deletion, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

We only use essential cookies: to keep you signed in, count votes fairly and protect forms. No ads, no tracking. Details
