Autumn does not break your child's routine. The light does.
It gets dark hours earlier and sunrise moves later, and the body clock follows the light: they fall apart at six in the evening and cannot be woken in the morning.
The fix is light, not willpower - a bright morning, normal indoor light until dinner, dim for the last hour before bed. Keep the old bedtime even when it is pitch dark outside, and give it a week.
