Single at 40 and still want kids. Is it too late to start a family?

I nursed on a maternity ward for thirty years and some of the calmest first-time mums I looked after were 41 and 42. They'd done the going out, they weren't rushing anything. Not too late, just stop waiting for the perfect partner to turn up first.
